Everyone in the neighborhood is invited.

We are welcoming 19 families who are arriving this month from eastern Congo. Most were displaced from remote areas during the Bundibugyo outbreak response. Friday will be their first dinner in Chicago. Masks encouraged!

There will be food for about 300 people, music, and a table for the kids. We need help! Cooking starts at 2:00pm and we always need people to serve and wash up. Just show up, or call us at the number below. Again, masks encouraged.

About Us

Bomoko Table is a small kitchen on Glenwood Avenue that serves free dinner six nights a week. We also hold 22 apartments in two nearby buildings for families who have just arrived and need somewhere to land.

Most of our cooks and caseworkers came here the same way our guests did. Between us we speak Swahili, Lingala, Kinyarwanda, French and English. "Bomoko" means unity in Lingala.

Our cooks make what they know. The menu changes but it is usually something like this:

Things we did before

Sat, June 20, 2026 — Lunt Avenue Block Supper. We closed the block and set 400 places. Nine restaurants cooked with us. Thank you to everybody who came out.
Sat, Feb 7, 2026 — Winter Coat & Kitchen Drive at the parish hall. We collected over 1,200 items, enough for every apartment we turned over last winter.

How To Help

Come and work a shift. Prep is 3-6pm, service and cleanup is 6-9pm. No experience needed, training takes ten minutes.
Give. $18 feeds a family of four. $260 covers a month of utilities in one apartment.
Bring things. YES: unopened pantry food, new bedding, working kitchen equipment, CTA fare cards. NO: used mattresses, opened food, clothing outside of a scheduled drive. Sorry, we have no room to store it.
